Batch spraying is one of the widest used techniques in low and medium-volume conformal coating processing.

This method of application uses an air-compressed spray gun to coat the surface of the whole circuit board.

Unlike other methods, spraying is not a selective process consequently making masking a requirement to protect the components that must not be coated.

All conformal coatings can be applied by batch spraying. However, the coating viscosity may need to be adjusted to allow the coating to be applied correctly.

The typical set-up for conformal coating batch spraying includes

  • A spray gun
  • Air compressor
  • Spray booth

Like other methods, spray coating is a skilled process that requires training and high levels of precision.

Normally, batch spraying is a low and medium-volume batch process but it can also be a high-volume process depending on the level of masking required.
